19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on court had led commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a close third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
