During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos clinched a close victory over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after giving up a two-point play in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 offensive yards during the contest.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes left.
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to score a potential winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to go for it rather than calling on kicker Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," Glenn stated after the game.
The running back surpassed 200 yards from scrimmage for the second straight week and first-year Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a 33-yard kick as time expired to secure the Carolina Panthers a narrow victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Los Angeles Rams finished the opening two quarters with a goal-line stand and then quarterback Matthew Stafford guided them to two scores to start the second half in their comfortable victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
The quarterback threw two scoring throws and Jonathan Taylor scored the go-ahead touchdown with 4:32 left, securing the Indianapolis Colts a close victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Sam Darnold threw scoring throws to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, and Seattle controlled both lines of scrimmage on their way to a comfortable victory.
Aaron Rodgers threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns, and the Pittsburgh Steelers had little trouble in their decisive win over the Cleveland Browns.
The quarterback escaped the pass rush and found with Ladd McConkey for a long catch-and-run in the closing seconds, leading to the kicker's game-winning field goal to give the Los Angeles Chargers a 29-27 victory.
The quarterback passed for 261 yards and three touchdowns as the visiting New England Patriots beat the New Orleans Saints 25-19.
