The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that focused exclusively on the upcoming animated film.
The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will propel Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
Much like the Wii-era games that act as its source material, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. On his epic voyage, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the previous film.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The film will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. It was announced by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
The upcoming Mario film is set to release near the four-decade milestone of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo has three new games publicly declared for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
